Hi Dick.    Have  ecMModulator control installed and running for several days now.  Wow, what a control.  Love it. Removes humidity much better.  Cannot wait to try in heating.   I am a believer and will sell this unit where ever I can.  Thanks.  Paul Whittaker

Dick,
I hear we (Carrier) installed some of the FanHandler’s recently and our team was pleased with the performance. I am interested in getting some costs, lead times etc. Thanks!

I've told people about FanHandler already.  It is working so well.  Our second floor is now only 1 degree different from the first floor compared to 7 or 8 degrees last year.  We have also only burned 1/4 tank of oil so far compared to more than half a tank by this time last year.  What a great investment!

 Hi Dick

Somehow we are not on the newsletter mailing list any more.  I thought we bought enough now that you would send one.  We used to get it before and we only bought one every other year (ha ha).  Anyway, I need a new price list and the newsletter.

I found your web site and it is looking pretty good.  We have been using the fan handler with UV lights now for 2 or three years with good success.  Our main use has been for the numerous split / bi-level homes in our area.  We install the Fan Handler with a low return to take care of the low level.

Our company has actually been using the Fan Handler for over 20 years, dating back to the belt drive units.  Bob Bills, from our company (Henson Robinson at that time) purchased units from you back then.  Bob Bills retired from an engineering job with the state and 2 years ago he ask me to install a new heating system.  I recommended we install the Fan Handler that he used to install years before.  I installed it and since he was an engineer, I had to go back and put your "Dial-A-Speed" remote speed selector.  What engineer can be satisfied with a product out of the box, right?

 Thanks for a great product.

Hey Dick!

Since I’ve been using the fan handler on furnaces, air conditioners, water source heat pumps, air handlers and regular heat pumps, things have been turning out great for our customers. On heat pumps the air is warmer and on gas furnaces it is just great. Everyone has been very pleased, which has greatly boosted customer’s confidence in us. Best of all we can sell temperature controlled variable speed any time or all the time. We don’t have to go to the manufactures so called variable speed.

 Hi Dick,

I want to take a moment and let you know what a great product I think you have. I’ve spent 23 years as a HVAC tech and have never seen a product close to yours. As I am now a business owner of an Air Duct Cleaning company, I offer my customers clean air and a comfortable living space. I see many homes with problems due to improper ducting and without costly repair or replacement their options to solve these problems were limited. With the Fan Handler I can give them comfort without modifying or changing the ducts. This product virtually compensates for poor duct work in many cases. Plus after installing a high quality air filter the home owners benefit from being able to use it 100% of the time as the filter will only work when air is being moved across it. I love this product and so do my customers! Thanks again.

Dick,

Your right – I’m now a Fan Handler Fan!  One of the units purchased was for my office, (wanted to try it out here first) and I am pleased with the performance.  Am in complete agreement with you -- every HP needs this control (so why aren’t I selling more???

You know this control has saved me on fuel oil as well, with no fan handler I have an outdoor tstat that fires the hot water baseboard boiler at 35 deg, mainly for comfort not temperature, with the fan handler, I have set the ODT to 25 deg. So I am burning a lot less oil, not to mention the electricity that is being saved on the boiler. At about 10 deg the heat pump shuts down and it is all oil.

Sincerely Yours,

Whats up Dick!
My name is Mike from A-Perfect Climate, Inc., out of Addison,IL. I have installed your product probably 12 to 18 times over the years, but not recently. Please forward me an updated price sheet, since I am currently pricing a job with 2 air handlers, that we are adding steam humidifiers and air purifiers to. I am talking to the homeowner about adding the FanHandler in order to make IAQ components more effective.

Thanks, Michael Sitarski 630-691-8380

Morning Dick,

Having been blessed so far this spring with El Nina induced, Seattle-like weather (high of 47 today with drizzle), we've had plenty of opportunity to try out the one LA-240 we bought awhile back and the techs love it! Please send two (2) more and bill to the credit card info you have on file. While you're at it, do you think you could build a weather transmorgifier?

Hi Norbert -

I've revised one of our spec sheets covering the 120 and 240 volt models of the FanHandler controls to include the 277 volt models. This reflects our understanding as to where we are in the ETL listing process. My assumption is that we are very close. As you are aware, we are developing these controls at Carrier's request. Thus, these controls are not in our standard line.

These 277 volt units are now being evaluated for ETL listing under UL 508. Interested persons might want to look through our website www.fanhandler.com. From our home page, click on products, then Furnaces with A/C and watch the flash presentation to follow the FAC-277 control's action.

The model will be: FAC-277. We don't have the amperage rating yet, but it will be much higher than your motors. At least five amps and most likely higher. Our triac is rated at 600 volts 25 amps.

at any time, interested persons can call me at 888-522-5151, I'll be glad to discuss anything concerning the control with them.

If you have any questions, I'll be glad to help.

Best regards,
Dick Peters, P.E./CM

I can’t believe I’ve been in this business for 16 years & I never read up on the Fanhandler. This is truly a very much needed item in our business. I use & recommend the ECM to my customers. Where does the Fanhandler fit in there?
I’m thinking the Fanhandler should be used for low ambient control instead of a low ambient bulb w/ cut out & cut in for commercial systems. Am I correct?
I have to order direct from  you, correct?
Thank you very much for all the info. Do we have to use a credit card or do you take electronic checks?

Hi Dick,

Can you send me the most current price list? I have been "chewing on the ears" of some of my fellow Contractors about your product and finally I think I have gotten thru to one of them!
I would like to send price list to him. He sells quite a few of the AprilAire 5000's and I have been telling him just how well a FanHandler would improve the performance of these products!

Regards, Mike Curran

 Mike –

Here are two 277 volt test controls. The internal transformer is a 240 volt unit. It works well. Runs cool, et.. I should be getting some 277 volt transformer samples in soon. It shouldn’t make any difference in the operation, but we have to get ETL to pass the unit.

I don’t like it in the high-speed tap. I’ve run the 277 volt motor for over a week at very low speed in the medium speed tap. Works great. Smooth, quiet and cool.

Suggestion: So long as you are modulating the motor’s speed, you don’t need a three speed motor. You could have the motor manufacturer build a single-speed motor that is full of copper and iron. Much higher efficiency ball bearing motor. Better operation. Etc. My suggestion:  is to contact the specialty motor division of Baldor Electric. The building will probably fall down before the motor dies.

Hope this helps,

Best regards,
Dick Peters, P.E./CM

Living in South Florida, we keep our windows open all winter to enjoy the fresh air.  They were open one Saturday in April of 2001 when we decided it was time to turn on the air conditioning.  The temperature inside was 90 and it was very humid.  My wife and I were in shorts and T-shirts and our clothes were dripping wet.

My business is the distribution of products to improve indoor air quality.  I had purchased a FanHandler six months earlier because I was interested in distributing the product, but it had never got any farther than my desk.  On that day I decided to install it as long as we were firing up the central air.

Installation took 30 or 40 minutes, after which we closed the windows and started the air conditioning.  We could tell from the sound that the fan was running much slower than usual.  We went about our business and didn’t think too much more about it until a half hour had gone by.  At that time I noticed to my surprise that my clothes were dry.  My wife’s clothes were also dry.  I checked the thermometer and saw that the temperature had dropped only a degree or two, but we both felt comfortable.  That’s when I looked outside to check the a/c drain line.

There was a steady stream of water as thick as a pen pouring from the drain line.  It took me a minute to understand what had happened.  The FanHandler had tackled the latent load (humidity) first.  That’s why we had become comfortable so quickly, because relative humidity has a much greater impact on comfort than temperature does.  How many times have you heard “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity”?  It’s true.

Over the next little bit of time the house dried out, the fan ran faster and the temperature dropped to match our thermostat setting.  I could hardly wait until Monday so I could contact FanHandler, Inc. to beg for a distributorship.

Since then we have discovered many benefits.  Summertime relative humidity in our house now averages 48-51%, compared to 65-70% before the FanHandler.  When we run our electric heat (not often, but at least a few days each year) we now have hot air blowing gently from the registers, rather than barely lukewarm air blasting out.  Our master bedroom is no longer hotter than the rest of the house, because the FanHandler keeps the air mixed up and the temperature even from room to room.

Our UV light and charged-media filter work as never before, because the air is moving past them 24/7, usually at a very slow speed, allowing them more time to do their work.  We notice this especially in the area of odors.  We both smoke.  The charged-media filter and the UV device are both effective at combating the smoking odors, but they work at least 100% better with the FanHandler installed.  We now run our system fan 365 days a year, even when the windows are open, because of this benefit.

The greatest benefit in terms of indoor air quality is also the greatest comfort benefit: the reduction in relative humidity.  If you can reduce your indoor relative humidity to 55% or less, many air quality problems are alleviated.  Dust mites don’t breed and mold doesn’t flourish.  In many Florida homes, 55% cannot be achieved.  Unless you have a FanHandler.

True story:  A local air conditioning contractor was working with a family whose wife and mom had a large number of respiratory problems and allergies.  She couldn’t leave the house without a breathing mask.  The contractor was trying to help make her home into a “safe haven” where she could breathe normally.  They did everything they could think of, installing HEPA filtration and UV devices, cleaning the ducts, sealing the ducts against leakage etc., but it wasn’t enough.  Then the contractor started wondering about humidity in the home.  He installed a FanHandler, and the “safe haven” was achieved.

Thanks for the terrific product, and for the distributorship, and for your support over the past three years.  Every home should have a FanHandler, and my goal is to make that happen, at least in Florida.

Sincerely,

Mike Bancroft

Fan Handler,

We are an HVAC dealer in SE Ohio and have installed several Fan Handlers.  Our customers who have them absolutely love them.  One of our outside salesman recently moved to a new home and decided to move his Fan Handler with him.  In doing so, he lost the sensors.  I've never had to purchase any parts for the Fan Handlers we've installed so I don't know any part numbers.  His Fan Handler will be installed on a gas furnace with air conditioning.  Can I order just the sensors or do I need to purchase a new Fan Handler unit.  I'd appreciate any info you can provide with regards to this.

Thanks,

Dick,

I work for an HVAC wholesaler that covers the entire state of Wisconsin.  I
call on retail contractors in seven counties.  I am always looking for
opportunities for them to improve their business by being able to deliver
better customer service.
What basic information can you give me that I can share with these
contractors to get them started? This would be an awesome "add-on"
opportunity for a technician on a service call or precision tune-up to
present to his customer.  And it would be something that would save the
customer money, improve their comfort, and improve their indoor environment.
That sounds like a grand slam to me!
I would appreciate it if you can point me in the right direction so I can
speak to my customers intelligently on this topic.

Thank you,

Mr. Peters, just had the Fan Handler installed on 10/26/2010. The contractor recommended that I use the “fan on” option, immediately I noticed the drastic reduction in sound as the fan now runs on a super low and quiet mode all the time. The first thing I have to get used to is the fan running all the time, not the sound or lack of it, just the idea. My contractor put on one of your motor’s as well and assured me that there was no issue. Now I just had to wait for it to get cold, as luck would have it there was summer like weather for the past few days. The temperature went down today and I got a chance to see what the product will do. I no longer have to reach for the remote every time my furnace comes on, and I have turned the thermostat from 73 degrees to 71 degrees. The heat has come on for very short periods of time and he temp seems to be maintained. I don’t want to get to excited as it is early in the process, but if this is any indication of what I can expect I truly sorry I didn’t discover you a lot sooner. I have just retired from law enforcement after 36 ½ so I am home all day to monitor its performance. I will contact you again once the cold weather has set in to advise you of my progress. Thanks from a new fan of Fan Handler.
